GUIDED WALKING HOLIDAYS Mountain Walks have been successfully offering guided walking holidays in Spain via various UK and Dutch tour operators for 15 years and have an unequalled knowledge of our local region. We offer the most comprehensive and varied packages available, from moderate guided walks which explore the dramatic countryside its culture and history at a leisurely pace, to challenging hill walking exploring the many ridges and peaks of the area. These are ideal walking holidays for single travellers. Over 40% of our guests are single travellers. Our locally based guides have tremendous experience and local knowledge with a great deal of international experience. With over a 100 different walks in our itinerary many visitors return time and time again. Our "Taste of Spain in the footsteps of the Moors" holidays, previously available via Headwater Holidays under a different title, are now only available on a direct booking basis. All our holidays run from Saturday to Saturday, although we may be able to offer midweek departures for groups of 8 or more. Walking will cover the following areas of the Alicante and Valencia mountains; La Marina Alta and its villages of Castell de Castells, Abdet and Guadalest; El Comtat based around the local market town of Cocentaina. These areas are also known as the "Valls de la Marina" cover the walking routes of Sierra Aitana, Sierra Mariola, Sierra Serrella, Vall de Gallinera, Vall de Guadalest, Vall de Laguart, Sierra Benicadell and Sierra Safor. The starting point for our guided walking holidays is Alicante airport which offers excellent low cost flight access to most UK regional airports, most major European airports and good connects for long haul flights. Following an exceptional birding week in April 2007 accompanied by BBC Radio 4 wildlife presenter and producer Brett Westwood, once again we have specialist birding holidays during 2008. These holidays will be available with or without an accompanying expert and a suitable for both committed birders and those wishing to learn more. FLORA HOLIDAYS
The mountain ranges in the south of the Valencia and north of Alicante provinces are home to some of the most varied flora to be found in Europe.
Over 400 species of flora specific to the region are to be found here including a large number of orchids and many rare and threatened species.
